BENTON COUNTY, Ark. – – Benton County planners got an initial look at a proposal for a marijuana cultivation operation, but no formal action is scheduled to take place.
One gentleman has met with the county’s development review committee.
The piece of land being looked at in Benton County is currently a poultry growing operation.
But he’s also looking at sites in Washington County as potential locations for a cultivation facility and dispensary.
Arkansas’ Medical Marijuana Commission will eventually approve four to eight cultivation licenses, and up to 40 dispensaries.
“We’re in the very early stages of this and people who are coming to us are also trying to go other routes, whether it be Washington County or other parts of the state,” Channing Barker, Benton County Communications Director said.
The county’s planning director says this is the third medical marijuana growing operation it’s been contacted about.
