An event designed to educate the public on medical cannabis is set for Saturday in Fort Smith, according to a news release.
The Arkansas Cannabis Industry Association and organization Illegally Healed will host the Medical Cannabis Patient Symposium at 6 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel, 700 Rogers Ave.
The purpose is to educate people on how to go about getting medical marijuana now that it is legal in Arkansas, the different forms of medical marijuana such as patches or oils and how to affect medical marijuana legislation, Illegally Healed co-founder Corey Hunt said. There will be two keynote presentations — “How to Become Legal in Arkansas” and “Cannabis and Cancer Treatments.”
Hunt first became interested in learning about medical marijuana five years ago after his girlfriend’s mother died of breast cancer, he said.
The event was originally set at another venue, but was moved to accommodate the crowd, Hunt said. As of Thursday, 164 people had indicated that they plan to attend, and 222 people had indicated they were interested in attending via Facebook.
The event is free.
